Obituary

Wanda Kay (Stockdale) Prewitt74, a member of the Central Coast Pioneer families of Stockdale and Sayler, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home in Cayucos, California on Thursday, December 11, 2014. She was born in Paso Robles, California on July 12, 1940. Her parents were Benjamin and Gladys Stockdale of Paso Robles.

Wanda spent most of her youth in Lockwood, and attended San Lucas School and San Antonio School, before moving to Soledad. She was a graduate of the 1959 class of Gonzales High School.

As a young mother, she was a member of many service organizations such as Gonzales Young Homemakers and the Soledad PTA. She organized and volunteered at events such as the "Keep a Cup of Tea" parties, Fashion Shows, Art Shows and wine tasting fundraisers to benefit the Trinity Nursery School. She was an avid league tennis player. She enjoyed her membership at Chamisal Tennis Club while she lived in Salinas.

For many years Wanda worked at Hair Unlimited in Salinas and was a wonderful friend and co-worker to all who knew her. Most of all, she was a loving and inspirational fulltime mother and Grandmother to her family.

After retirement she became an avid traveler and enjoyed a variety of trips from boat camping at Lake Shasta with her longtime friend and partner Larry Teeters and her faithful dog Moose, to a sailboat cruise off the coast of Italy, and backpacking in Zion. She loved every minute of her time as a Red Hat Club Lady, and dearly loved her Red Hat Lady friends. She had a passion for the Cayucos Pier Project and the annual Cayucos Beach Glass Festival.

Wanda is survived by her siblings, Joan Truman of Salinas, Gary Stockdale of Redding , her children Audrey Kay and Robert Gammie of Paso Robles, Scott and Michelle Prewitt of Palm Desert, and Kim and Steve Tankersley of Lockwood. Her beloved grandchildren are, Michaela Howe, Ben Howe, Jette Kay Tankersley, Drury Tankersley, Sayler Tankersley, Austin Prewitt, Blake Prewitt, Robert Gammie Jr., and great grandchildren, Geoffrey Campo, Kali Gammie and Jackson Gammie.

A Memorial Service will be held, 12:00 Noon, Monday, December 29, 2014 at Puma Road Winery on River Road Gonzales, Calif.
