Walter Eugene "Gene" Burpo. 91, formerly of Greenfield, California passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, in Maineville, Ohio.
Gene was born in Dover, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma on July 21, 1931 to Walter Lee and Ollie Beatrice Bell Burpo Brooks.
Gene started his automotive mechanic career in Crescent, Okla. His brother Albert called him and told him he had a job waiting for him in California. The family moved to King City, CA and he went to work at Turner Chevrolet. He continued working there for about 40 years, working for several owners over the years.
He loved his walks around town, sometimes going for 3 miles or more. He also liked working in the garden, pruning the trees, taking care of the flowers. He also had a deep love of God, and reading the Bible each day with Dessie, his wife.
Gene married the love of his life, Dessie Marie Williams on July 12, 1950. They were married for 68 years before her passing in September 2018.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Dessie Burpo; his parents, Walter Lee and Ollie Beatrice Burpo; brothers, Albert, Aldon, and Frank Burpo; sisters, Mae Jones and Faye Rumsey.
He is survived by his 4 daughters; Kathy (Bob) Woodworth, Phyllis and Norma Burpo, Tricia Frye (Ed); 4 grandchildren; Amanda (Jerry) Weiss, Jason (Maria) Woodworth, Nick (Denise) Woodworth, Chris (Sarah) Woodworth; great-grandkids, Vivian (Jake) Fightmaster, Andrew (Alexa) Ramirez, Draven Ramirez; Cody, Jason & Trevor Woodworth, Kyle, Logan & Kaylee Woodworth, Sarah, Liberty and Leila Woodworth; great-great grandkids, Raynah and Kahlan Fightmaster, Julius, Andraya, Atlas and Aziza Ramirez. He is also survived by his sister, June (Wayne) Fike of Kingfisher, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate it if you would make a donation to the charity of your choice.
A Funeral service is scheduled for 11 am, January 6, 2023 at Eddington Funeral Services Chapel, 429 Bassett St. in King City, Calif. Gene will be laid to rest in the King City District cemetery
