Todd Darrell Daines, 20, of King City, California passed away on July 23, 2012 as a result of injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident. Todd was continuously surrounded by his loving family and friends throughout his hospital stay.
Todd was born in Salinas, California on July 29, 1991. He enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in King City and received a great education in the local school system. After graduation from King City High School in June 2009, Todd started his college career at University of Nevada, Reno, studying Information Technology Systems and Business. Todd was proud to be a member of Delta Sigma Phi.
Todd was active in his community and schools. During high school, he was a member of the KCHS Leadership Class. He also was a member of Salinas Valley Junior Fairboard, serving as president his senior year of high school. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in King City.
Todd loved and excelled in sports and outdoor activities of all kinds. As a child he participated in youth soccer, Little League and Pop Warner Football. During his high school years he valued the time he spent participating in football and track. As a senior, Todd was chosen All League in both football and track. Upon arriving at UNR he discovered a new sport to love, Rugby. He enjoyed hunting and skiing with family and friends.
Along the way and throughout all of his activities, Todd collected many faithful friends and was blessed with a multitude of cousins who shared in all aspects of his life. Todd's greatest pleasure was spending time with those he loved.
Todd is survived by his loving family, parents Mary and David, brother Matthew, sister Erin, nephew Isaiah, his grandmother Patricia Arena, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Anna Daines, James Francis Giudici and Darrell Arena.
Todd chose to give the gift of life and was a registered organ donor. It comforts his family to know that his organs and tissue are bringing new life and hope to many others. The family wishes to thank the caring staff from Sierra Vista Hospital and the California Transplant Network.
A scholarship fund has been established through King City Joint Union High School. Donations to the Todd Daines Memorial Scholarship can be mailed to 800 Broadway, King City, CA 93930. A memorial barbeque to celebrate Todd's life will be held August 4, 2012 at 11:30 am at 56725 Jolon Road, King City.
