Obituary

"Timmy" Smith, international Casanova, smoking enthusiast, trout fisherman, and career civil servant, died peacefully in his home the morning of Thursday, February 25, 2021.

Tim was the third and youngest son of Patty Jo Williams (deceased), U.S. Postal worker and devout Baptist who could put Betty Crocker to shame in the kitchen, and Dewey McDonald Smith (deceased), welder for the U.S. Air Force, grower of large, delicious fruits and vegetables, and avid fisherman. Tim spent much of his younger years camping, fishing and hunting with his extended family in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. His retirement dream was to run a fishing charter and cigar bar; Tim fell in love with the warm waters and cool breezes of Latin America while living and working in Panama in the '90s.

Tim began his 44-year career for "Uncle Sugar" at the Sacramento Army Depot in 1976, the same year his son Justin (surviving) was born at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA, where Tim was stationed with the 54 th MP Company. His daughter Jennifer (surviving) was born two years later. Tim is also survived by two stepchildren, Lyanne and Cris, and seven grandchildren: Chyenne, Tyler, Cylus, Soren, Alexander, Leela and Aurora.

Tim was meticulous and had an eagle eye for problem areas in a project, plan, or person. He was determined to make things always better, striving for perfection. No matter if you were his 2-year-old grandchild or a 2-star Army General, Tim would hold you accountable to his high standards. In Tim's words, anything less was "dookie."

In honor of Tim's memory, take a ride up Highway 1 on a Harley-Davidson, drink some Don Francisco coffee (with Splenda and CoffeeMate), fish for trout in the Sierras, enjoy a Cuban cigar, or sit with someone you respect and laugh about life's ironies.

Tim was honored with the presentation of Military Honors on Saturday, February 27th at Barney Schwartz Park Lake in Paso Robles, CA.  Following the presentation of honors, family and friends gathered at the Barrel House Brewery in Paso Robles where they continued to celebrate Tim's life.
