IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sebastian P.
Andrade
January 20, 1927 – October 8, 2017
Sebastian Perez Andrade Sr. also known as "Subby" to friends and family, went home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2017. Subby had been under Hospice care while living with his son Raymond Andrade Sr. in Paso Robles, California. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years Frances Garnica Andrade, his infant daughter Catherine Andrade, his grandson Raymond Andrade Jr., as well as his parents Pantaleon and Luz Andrade, sisters Julia and Madelena, and brothers Francisco, Manuel, Louie, Joe, Valentin, and Augustin.
Subby is survived by his sons Sebastian Andrade Jr., Raymond Andrade Sr. and daughter-in-law Irma; his grandchildren Manuel Martinez, Adella Torres (Andrade), Sarah Andrade and Isaac Andrade; his great-grandchildren Jonathan Andrade, Jacob Andrade, Joshua Andrade, Arykia Torrez, Cassandra Torrez and Michael Torrez; and three great-great-granddaughters.
Subby was born in Bakersfield, California on January 20, 1927. The family moved to Montecito, CA in 1932 where he attended Montecito Union School and began his love of learning. Regretfully the family was enduring the hardships of the Great Depression so he and his siblings had to leave school to work and help their mother who by then was a widow. While his formal education had come to an end, the foundations were set for him to develop a life-long love for reading and history.
Later his family moved to Santa Barbara and they lived in the same neighbourhood as the Garnica clan where he met his one true love of 67 years, Frances Garnica. In 1942, Frances' family moved to King City where Subby and Frances later married and started their own family. In 1945, Subby was drafted and entered the Army where he served proudly in World War II. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he returned home to continue his career with the California Orchard Company until 1960 when due to health issues, the family returned to live in Santa Barbara. He began working as a gardener and soon it was apparent he was quite skilled in landscaping and began his own very successful business. He retired in 1989 and moved to Greenfield, California. Full-time retirement did not suit Subby because he was always a very hard-working man, so he continued a part-time job with the City of Soledad as well as other various projects.
When not working, Subby enjoyed watching the San Francisco 49ers football games and the New York Yankees baseball games. He loved to read about any and all historical events and became quite the American history expert. But his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved them to a fault and cherished their visits.
Subby was very loved and will be missed but he leaves a legacy of intelligence, integrity, chivalry and work ethic.
