Sally passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, May 21 after a courageous battle against Multiple Myeloma.
Born August 26, 1935, Sally Vaughn was raised in Berkeley. She attended Berkeley public schools and graduated from Cal where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and honor societies of Panile, Prytanean and Cal Club where she made lifelong friends. It was during her sophomore year on a blind date that she met the love of her life, Craig Wiley. They were married December 27, 1957 and spent more than 56 wonderful years together.
Sally loved working with children. She briefly taught at Greenfield Elementary School after she was married and then again at Oak Avenue from 1984 through 2000 when she retired. She volunteered as the Greenfield Community 4-H Leader, taught Sunday school, helped with the Greenfield Little League and taught swimming lessons at the Greenfield pool for many years.
Sally was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Mee Memorial Hospital Service League, Monterey County Junior League and PEO. She enjoyed spending time with friends, playing bridge and bunko, and book club.
Sally was an awesome mom, never missing a single game or dance performance. Grammy continued to support her grandchildren with the same enthusiasm, putting thousands of miles on the car and in the air to see all of their activities and spend time with each of them. She loved going with her grandkids to Tahoe, the Santa Cruz beach, and the Lair of the Bear in Pinecrest.
Sally is survived by her beloved husband Craig, brother Bill Vaughn, children Cathy (Ed) Boer, Mike (Amy), Rich (Kirsten) and John. Her beloved grandchildren are Nicholas, Haley, Audrey, Matthew, Cassidy, Mackenzie, Amanda, Ben and Andi.
A special thank you to the friends and family who visited Sally in the hospital and at home and sent notes of encouragement, and especially to the choir from Grace Lutheran.
A Memorial Service for Sally will be held Friday, May 30th at 1:00 at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds Pavilion in King City.
