Obituary

Ryan S. Chaney passed away on July 21 at the age of 36 in Beaverton, Oregon.  He was born on June 3, 1990.  He grew up in King City where he graduated elementary school from San Antonio Union School and High School, from Monterey County Home School and attended Hartnell and Cuesta College.

He entered the US Air Force as an airman in Security Forces, serving for 7 years in Okinawa, Hawaii, Qatar and Philippines, after serving his country he moved to Oregon where he settled.

As a boy growing up, he was quite adventurous and enjoyed playing with his older brother and friends.  He joined the Cub Scouts and went on to the Boy Scouts where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.  As a teenager he did summer work at Safeway and Monterey County parks in maintenance and lifeguarding.  In Oregon he worked at a fuel transfer facility for ships and rail cars. He enjoyed snow skiing, waterskiing and paintball, fishing, hiking and his motorcycle were his favorites later in life.

He is survived by his children; John, Evangeline, Penelope and Erik Chaney, his parents Steven and Gail Chaney of King City, his brother Greg (Kristin) Chaney of Paso Robles and his nieces Reagan and Amelia.  He was a loving father to his children, a loving son, brother and friend to many who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Norwood and Lily Chaney of Greenfield and Tony and Eleanor Plaza of Patterson, two uncles, Robert Plaza and Lawrence Plaza of Patterson.

Services will be held, 11:30 am, Friday, August 14th, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 504 N. Third St., King City Calif.  Burial will follow in King City District Cemetery. Please join the family following the services for a reception at St. John’s McHugh Hall.
