Our beloved wife, mother, nana, and great-grandmother, Ruth M. Rodriguez Hernandez, 92, of King City, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2014, surrounded by her adoring family.
She was born August 3, 1921 in San Lucas, California, and was the 4th of 9 children born to Francisco and Petra Rodriguez. She graduated from King City High School in 1938.
She met her husband, Alfonso, while working for Jimmie Lynn as a grocery store clerk. They were married in 1946, at St. John's Catholic Church, and recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. She was a homemaker, who made a loving home, while raising her 5 children, Ruth Anne, Anthony, Paul, Mark, and Carole before returning to the workforce and becoming a "lunch lady" at Santa Lucia School. She enjoyed retirement, as it allowed her even more time to spend with her greatest joy and accomplishment, her family.
She was a devout Catholic, and served her church as a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society, and Young Ladies Institute; she greatly enjoyed assisting and translating for Sister Anthony with catechism lessons at the California Orchard Company.
She is survived by her loving husband, Alfonso; daughters, Ruth Anne Sonniksen and Carole (Richard) Arredondo; sons, Anthony (Katie) Hernandez, Paul (Annette) Hernandez, and Mark (Pam) Hernandez; grandchildren, Brian (Rebecca) Sonniksen, Melissa (Jason) Armer, Jacob (Alicia) Hernandez, Steven (Maricela) Arredondo, Timothy (Megan Keefer) Hernandez, Daniel Hernandez, Stephanie (Tyler Cockrell) Hernandez, Alex Arredondo, Jason Hernandez, Sara Hernandez, and Michael Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Tagen, William, Nathaniel, Sienna, Marcos, Margo and Eleanor; siblings, Lupe Lopez, Beatrice Yochim, Frank Rodriguez, Jr., and Rosemarie Gonzalez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Gloria; and siblings, Charles, Manuel, Marie, and Hermalinda.
Her family was her life, and she made each and every one of us feel as if we were her very favorite person in the entire world. She never failed to send a greeting card with money inside for every holiday and birthday, accompanied by her famous "singing telegram". She enjoyed crossword puzzles, spoiling her family with her many "goodies", and was an avid San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan. She loved life, was a beautiful person with a smile that brightened everyone's day, was a model of kindness and compassion, and was not only a blessing, but also she was the world to her family.
