Ruben Soliz, 73 of King City passed away on May 11, 2023. He was born August 24, 1949, in Lima, Ohio. The oldest of nine children, living in Monterey County for 57 years, his family's first home in California was at the Orchard Company. Graduated from King City High School class of 1969.
A faithful catholic that served teaching children and adults in Catechist. Also, volunteering at the church in whatever was needed. Ruben was well known throughout the community as a helpful, friendly, and wise man who would give advice to anyone who would come to him. We are thankful to many people that cared for Ruben, attended his classes, Hope that by knowing of his passing they remember his encouragement for them to continue praying and accepting their catholic faith.
He was a do it your self-kind of a guy, enjoying gardening, cooking, BBQing, taking pictures of family/friends and best of all family trips to Las Vegas, Disneyland, Indio, Mexico, and Bakersfield. An avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indian (Cleveland Guardians).
Ruben worked for Basic Vegetable Products for 33 years: started as a "clean up" in 1970. Since that time he worked his way up the latter, and was promoted to Onion Mill superintendent, also worked for La-Z-boy Store (Salinas), Casey Printing, Dole Food Co. (Soledad), and Rava Ranches, retired in 2011.
Survived by his wife of 32 years Maria Martinez-Soliz, daughters Liliana (Andrew) Elsa, and Melissa. Sons Ruben and Marcos, grandchildren Joaquin, Violet, Leticia, Ruben Jr., and Andrew, and brothers Israel, Gilbert, and sisters Sandra, Silvia, Mary, and Connie. Numerous nieces and nephews. Ruben will always be a wonderful father, grandfather, and brother.
He is preceded in death by his parents Guadalupe and Barbara, and brothers Guadalupe Jr and Ramiro.
Even though Ruben had a difficult time with his Spanish he always tried his best to communicate with the Hispanic community.
He earned the respect and admiration of our parish community. Aunque Rubén tuvo dificultades con su español, siempre hizo todo
lo posible para comunicarse con la comunidad de Hispana. Se gano el respeto y admiración de nuestra comunidad parroquial.
