IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roslyn Eileen
Stephens
March 10, 1940 – February 16, 2024
Roslyn Eileen Stephens, 83 of King City, passed away on February 16, 2024. Her birth certificate shows that she was born on March 10, 1940, but her mother told her that she was actually born on March 12th. She used both dates throughout her life which proved both comical and challenging!
Roslyn loved and enjoyed her family above all else. She was born in Fordville, North Dakota to Arthur and Odessa Pederson and grew up with four siblings; brothers Dwayne (Butch) & Ronald and sisters Kathryn and Ellen (Tudy).
In 1957 she married Francis Dahlen of Dahlen, North Dakota. They moved to King City with their two young sons, Reg & Guy, in 1961 when Francis took a teaching position at King City High School. A few years later they were blessed with two more sons, Todd & Bret.
With four sons in the household, Roslyn was very busy with their schooling, paper routes, sports (Little League, golf, etc.) and numerous, other extra curricular activities. Later, she added a job as a Santa Lucia School teacher's aide. Roslyn was also an excellent baker and was regularly sought out to bake and decorate cakes for birthdays, weddings and other occasions.
Roslyn was preceded in death by her husband Francis in 1973.
A few years later she married Hurshel (Buck) Stephens who also had four children; Brenda, Richard, Eric & Darrell. The number of children "at home" quickly decreased from eight down to three as the older children went off to college and their work careers. "Buck & Roz" stayed very busy with their farm machinery repair, cattle and worm farm businesses. They also owned and operated the Country Cafe on Jolon Road for many years.
Buck passed away in 2000. Roslyn was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dwayne and Ronald and stepson Richard Stephens.
Roslyn is survived by her sisters Kathryn (Robert) Twaddle, Ellen McClure, sisters-in-law Nancy Pederson, Carol Jallo and Dorcas (Lloyd) Schmidt, sons Reginald (Annette) Dahlen, Guy Dahlen, Todd (Lisa) Dahlen, Bret (Paula) Dahlen, step daughter Brenda (Mike) Billingsly, stepsons Eric Stephens, Darrell (Laurie) Stephens, daughter-in-law Julie Dahlen, step daughter-in-law Lori Stephens, seven grandchildren Carly Dahlen, Will (Chelsea) Dahlen, Megan (Trent) Berg, Todd Dahlen, Zach Dahlen, Courtney Dahlen and Henry (Radha Yerramilli) Dahlen, nine step grandchildren Melissa (Chris) Barmes, Clay (Kim) Stephens, Rachel, Caleb & Joshua Billingsly and Doug, Jake, Nick and Thomas Stephens, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and unofficially adopted son Mike (Frankie) Hearne.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to her caregivers at the Eden Valley Care Center, especially Hortencia, Marla and Joanna for the care they provided to her this past year and to the staff at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital for the excellent care they provided during her final week of life.
A private family service will be held in the near future.
Donations may be made to your charity of choice.
