Ron Miller, a dedicated firefighter, skilled carpenter, and devoted family man, passed away on June 28, 2024, at the age of 80.

Born on January 19, 1944, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, to Bob and Mary Miller, Ron spent his formative years in San Ardo, California. As the eldest of five children, he learned the value of hard work and responsibility early on, spending summers at the Mee Ranch bailing hay and mending fences. These experiences instilled in him a strong work ethic that would define his life.  Ron was a Class of 1962 graduate from King City High School.

Ron's 30-year career with the California Department of Forestry (CDF) began in November 1964. He served as a firefighter, battling wildfires across California's rugged terrain. Later, he led teams of youth offenders from the El Paso de Robles Youth Correctional Facility, teaching them valuable skills in firefighting and construction. In his final role at CDF, Ron worked as a radio dispatcher in King City, coordinating emergency responses across Monterey County.

In 1974, Ron married Susan, an elementary school teacher from Sacramento. Their union was blessed with the birth of their son, Peter, in 1980. Ron's greatest achievement and source of pride was his family. He devoted himself to providing for and nurturing his loved ones, creating lasting memories through family trips to national parks and sharing his passions for square dancing and Corvettes.

After retiring from CDF in 1994, Ron pursued his passion for carpentry. He established a woodworking shop in Greenfield, California, where he spent two decades crafting custom cabinetry. Ron and Susan traveled extensively, exploring Europe and Asia, but he most enjoyed driving across the United States in his beloved Corvette.

In his final years, Ron and Susan relocated to North Carolina to be closer to their son's family. He cherished his role as a grandfather, playing video games with his grandson Garrett and supporting his granddaughter Scarlett in her various activities like gymnastics and cheerleading. Ron continued to pursue his hobbies, building a gazebo with his friend Jeff and hosting summer gatherings for friends and family.

Throughout his life, Ron Miller embodied the values of hard work, dedication, and family. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of driving fast, his skill as a craftsman, and above all, his unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Peter and daughter-in-law Ashley; and grandchildren, Garrett and Scarlett.  Ron is also survived by his sister, Peggy Miller Martella of King city; brothers, Bob Miller (Denise) of King City, Jim (Patti) Miller of Washington, Utah and sister Debbie Miller King (Paul) of King City and numerous nieces and nephews.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Visitation and Graveside Services were held on July 2, 2024 at Maplewood Cemetery, Clayton, North Carolina.
