Obituary

Rodney E. Smith, 90 of King City passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025.  He was born and raised in King City.

Rod was a builder, creative, and hardworking, kind, with a great sense of humor.  He was born and raised in King City, attending the local schools, graduated King City High School in 1952.  He attended San Francisco State College where he majored in Architectural design and Commercial design. He liked good music, and had a great tenor singing voice, which was not known by most of his friends and co-workers.  He enjoyed trail riding, going camping with his family, re-building old useless material into useful new ones.

From 1955 to 1957 he worked as a Carpenter's Apprentice.

He was drafted into the US Army in 1960; serving most of his time in Germany.  He was a Specialist 4 in charge of field communications in a Service Battery with the 17th Artillery – 7th Army.  He was honorably discharged in 1962.

In 1962 he met and married his wife, Karen (Ebel) after only six weeks of seeing each other.  Married sixty-two years full of life, love and laughter, along with tears as well.  He fathered two sons, Lyle in 1964 and Alan in 1967.  What a joy they were.  They pre-deceased their dad, Lyle Rodney in 1990, and Alan Eugene in 2017.  Rod was also pre-deceased by his parents, Carl Becker Smith and Rena Thelma (Tavernetti), as well as his oldest sister, Carol Sundahl.  His younger sister, Claudia Bravo is thankfully, still with us.

After being in the carpentry trade since 1957, he became a Licensed General Building Contractor in 1976.

How do you sum-up a person's life in words, when there is so much more than words that define it?  Loved, cherished, and missed – more than words.

Go with God, dear love.  Perhaps, while you are away you will be building a new staircase to heaven.
