Roberta Ruth Oswald "aka Nixie" passed away on February 19, 2023 at the Bitterwater ranch where she had lived since she was two years old.  She was surrounded by her loving nieces and family members who cared for her.

Roberta graduated from King City High School in the class of 1944 as the valedictorian. She was famous for her athletic skills and Trumpet playing.  She gave up the trumpet but continued her love of sports especially softball.  She played for local teams for many years.

After graduating she took a job at the local War Rations Board, followed by several various jobs until she went to work for the local Monterey County Trust & Savings (now Wells Fargo) in 1948.  There she started at the job that would fulfill her for the next 46 years.  She began as a bookkeeper, then secretary and on up until she retired in 1992 as branch manager and Vice President of Wells Fargo Bank.

Roberta was devoted to her job but she found time to travel and enjoy many activities.  She loved her ranch and spent hours doing the chores and taking care of her beautiful flower garden. There were trips to Giants ball games, snow ski trips, sea-shell collecting, water skiing and trips to fulfill her lifelong love of learning.  There were always nieces and other family members and friends included in the fun.

Roberta loved young people and spent many years reading to the students at Bitterwater School. This was the school she had attended as a child.

Roberta is quoted as saying, "You don't find happiness, you make it!"  And she always made everyone who knew her happy.

She is survived by her nieces, Sue Ellen (Tully) Ipson, Barbara and Kelly O'Conner, Judy Oswald Yost, Nancy Solari and Janet Oswald who cared for her in the last few years, along with her sister-in-law Marjorie Oswald.  She adored her niece and nephews, Lynda Oswald (Stohlman) and nephews, Pat Oswald, Mike Oswald and Mark Oswald. There are also numerous grandnieces and nephews along with many cousins who will miss her in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Art Oswald, her siblings Ione Tully, William Oswald, Owen Oswald and Wade Oswald, niece Joy Ellen Oswald Himsl and nephews Billy Joe Oswald and Jim O'Conner.  Also preceding her in death were many friends especially Ruth Records, her travelling partner and companion.  She had lots of pets in her lifetime including Tug, her beloved German shepherd.
