Obituary

Robert Scott Gregory, 73 of King City passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at Mee Memorial Hospital with his family at his side. All who know him called him Bob. He was the son of Samuel Robert Gregory and Gertrude Louise Tennis. He was born in Los Angeles, California May of 1941.

Bob's family came to live in King City in 1948. At the young age of twelve Bob was getting up early to ride with milk delivery employees of his Father's business to run the milk orders to each house before school. Bob had a love for cars since the young age of two. He owned his first car before he had his driver's license in high school. Bob played football and basketball. He was always the "High-point" man in the game. He raised pigs and roses for the fair. He was a Kingsman Vice-President a member of DeMolay. He could be seen driving around in his white pearlescent 1953 Ford with purple pin strips. With a V-8 engine in his Ford Bob won trophies at the San Luis Drag Races.

Bob graduated from King City Joint Union High School in 1959. He joined the Navy reserves and served two years active duty aboard the US Ticonderoga Aircraft Carrier. He went on to serve four years in the Navy.

In 1962 Bob returned home to attend Hartnell College and received an AA in Business Administration. In 1964 Bob married his High School Sweetheart, Sylvia "Sis" Fitzwater and moved to Fresno, Calif., where he attended Fresno State College. He attended class during the day and worked nights for Borden's Milk Company. Together Bob and Sis had three daughters; Kim (deceased), Lisa and Jill.
In 1965 Bob's father became ill. Bob moved his wife and family back to King City. He worked in his father's milk business and sold milk for Golden State Milk. At night he worked for the Grim Funeral Services. At that time it was an Ambulance and a Funeral Service. Bob eventually bought the milk business from his father and expanded it selling products to Bradley, San Ardo, Lockwood, Jolon, San Antonio Lake, the Schools and the US Forestry.

In 1975 Bob built a store in Jolon, California and operated it until 1985. The improvements he added included the store, a carwash, laundry mat and the Ruby Mine Saloon. He took down the improvements he built in Jolon in 1985. Bob and Sis divorced in 1981.

Bob always stayed active in the community. He was member of King City Rotary. He was a past President, Interact and Rotary International. Bob was always interested in helping young students obtain scholarships.

Bob soon married his friend and confidant Sandra "Sandy" Tippery and raised her daughter Kimberly Marie. Together, Bob and Sandy operated Mission Distributors and turned it into Party Wholesale, moved the business from 101 Airport Drive to Broadway in King City. They started Party Wholesale II in Sand City, which they ran for eighteen years. At the same time Bob started Party Wholesale III in Santa Cruz.

Bob's hobbies were cars, toys, singing and building. He loved to travel to Incline Village, Hong Kong, China, Mexico, Hawaii and England. But his favorite place aside from King City was Jamaica.

Bob had an accident in March of 2009 where he fell backwards moving a car. He was in a coma for 35 days and in rehab another sixty-seven days. But Bob was a fighter. He worked very hard to regain his life and he did just that.

In January of 2012, Bob became ill with pneumonia.

In Bob's words:

"You set and think as you watch your life pass before your eyes. You think about what you have accomplished in your life. You have a family, you buy a house, you buy a bigger house, you buy a car, get your children through collage. You realize its time to clean up loose ends as your life draws to a close. You ask yourself what kindness have I shown to someone? What nice things have I done? Have I taken the time to say something amiable to someone? Have I helped those who had less than I?"

"I am not afraid to die, I don't want to die, but I am not afraid. I have accomplished all the goals I set before myself. I have been the best Father I could be. By making sure I gave my daughters the tools to build their lives."

"I have found the love of my life as I have been the greatest husband, provider and protector. Making sure that everyday I showed my love. Flowers on Sunday to say I love you, I appreciate everything you do for me. Just in case I forgot to say thank you I offer you these flowers and my love as you have fulfilled my life."

Bob is survived by wife Sandra and Kimberly Marie and grandson Jalen; his daughters Lisa Gregory and two granddaughters Julia and Lily; daughter Jill Logar and two granddaughters Michele and Hannah.

Private services will be held at a future date.
