Obituary

Robert P. McDonald, 59, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in Santa Maria, Calif. He was born September 3, 1956 in Santa Maria to Betty and John McDonald. Robert attended local schools, including Santa Maria High. He joined the US Army, serving in an armored division while stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged. He worked in the family business, M&W Pumps, until leaving to try other things, including numerous jobs in the construction field.

Those who knew Robert will always remember him as someone who would be there if you needed a helping hand; the kind of friend who would literally give you the shirt off his back if he thought it would help. He was a generous soul who said little but cared a lot. When he became a grandfather and talked about his kids and their kids you just knew the world had become a happier place for him. He had a rarely seen crooked smile but when you saw it you just knew that behind his gruff exterior there was a softness he kept mostly to himself. He will be missed, and he will be remembered always by those who loved him. Wherever this next journey takes him we hope he has avocados and apples… you are loved Robert, be at peace.

Robert was predeceased by his father John (Mac) McDonald; daughter, Dana McDonald and brother-in-law, Harvey Lobo. He is survived by his children, Kristina Henry (Dewane) and Brigitte Villa (Casey) both of Atascadero; grandchildren, Mason and Maddix Henry, Kamryn, Gavyn and Brynn Villa; the loving mother of his children, Kim McDonald; mother, Betty McDonald; sisters, Wanda McDonald (Jim Hopkins), Jeannie Lobo, Barbara Hofer (Donald) and Carole Phillips (Bill) and brother Norman McDonald (Cheryl), plus numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Robert. He also leaves behind many close friends and his little dog, Chewie.

At Robert's request, there will be no services. A family Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Donations in memory of Robert may be made to Lighthouse, Atascadero, (http;//www.lighthouseatatascadero.org/) or a charity of your choice.
