Obituary

Robert "Bob" Gene Eddington, 84 of King City passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.

Bob was born November 23, 1927 in Winfield, Kansas to Arthur and Alice Eddington. He and his family lived in Oklahoma for several years before moving to California in the mid 1930's. He lived in Los Angeles and worked on the docks in Long Beach. Bob served in the US Army 1949 to 1951.

After his mother's passing, he moved to King City, where he met and married Phyllis Perez. Together they raised 5 children. Bob had several jobs working for the Foremost Milk Company, B &B Truck Stop, The Reel Joy Theatre as a projectionist, a Police Officer for King City Police Department and eventually worked at Basic Vegetable Products where he started as a Crew Leader soon promoted to Foreman and eventually became an Engineer. He retired after 21 years with the company. He continued for several years working part-time as a Contract Engineer for Basic. Bob's work ethics were second to none. He was a soft spoken man of few words and his hand shake was as good as gold. When he shook on it, that was as good as any contract you could write. He respected people for who they were and he was respected by those who knew and worked with him.

Bob was an avid reader. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, woodworking, crossword puzzles, traveling and watching NCIS. He was a member of several community organizations, The King City Moose Lodge, one of the organizations instrumental in forming the first King City Recreational Program for youth in King City, The King City Archery Club, and the Family Jeepers Club for families enjoying 4 wheeling together, The Sportsman's Club, Naked in the Woods and Silver Kings' and Queens.

Bob enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a lifelong LA Dodger fan. In 2007 Bob moved to Colorado Springs where he looked forward to being closer to his son Richard and his family. In 2010 Bob became homesick. He missed his family and friends and moved back to King City. Here he was able to see and be with his family and friends he had grown to miss being away. He cherished his time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, spending untold hours enjoying their participation in school and sports activities. He was a frequent flyer at Moon's Meats and Deli where you could always catch him on Fridays having a bowl of clam chowder and a sandwich with his grandson Jonathan.

Survivors include his children, Alice Haskins, Margaret Eddington, Robert (Geneva) Eddington, Richard (Patty) Eddington, Annette Press; grandchildren, Kandice (Scott) Olcese, Anne (Jesse) Serrano, Jason Press, Jonathan Eddington, Cody and Wyatt Eddington, James, Tiffany and Luke Eddington; 3 great grandchildren, Tyler, Addison and Becca.
