Robert Joseph Ferreira, 65 of Los Banos, California passed away on March 13, 2017 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Robert was born September 8, 1951 in Rhode Island.

Robert enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to sounds and music. He also enjoyed working on computers. When friends encountered computer problems he was always ready to help. Even in his job, he could troubleshoot. In the 1970's, Robert worked for Union Carbide asbestos refining plant in King City and in the 1980s-90's for an electronics company in San Jose. Most recently he worked as a computer engineer at JIT manufacturing company from 2012 to 2015. Robert loved to spend time with Vilma at early morning Mass. He would get up early every Sunday and they would attend different churches each week.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus and active in supporting other church activities. He also believed in bettering the community. He recently ran for City Council in the City of Greenfield.

Robert was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He and his girlfriend, Vilma Cabading were hoping to marry in July. However, his diagnosis was not good and it did not appear that he would see that day. When the caregivers at the hospital heard of this they teamed up with SVMHS Patient Experience team members to make it happen. On Saturday, February 25, 2017, Robert and Vilma were married in a special wedding ceremony in his hospital room.

Robert is survived by his wife, Vilma T. Ferreira; half-brother, John Paul Ferreira; aunt, Cora Guido and relatives, Carol Taylor and Joan Winn.

A Visitation is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017. A Recitation of the Rosary will be at 12:00 p.m., followed by a 12:30 p.m. Funeral Mass. All services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Greenfield. A Celebration of his life will follow in the Church Hall.
