IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul Wallace
Martinus
August 22, 1942 – June 3, 2023
Paul Wallace Martinus, 80, passed away on Saturday June 3, 2023, at his home in Lockwood, California. He was born August 22, 1942, in King City and was a lifelong resident of Monterey County.
Paul graduated from King City High School and earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural management from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Corral Sea during the Vietnam War. He said his time in the service was one of his proudest achievements.
Paul was known for his expertise as farmer, cattleman, developer, and real estate broker throughout Lockwood Valley. He frequently was visited by those pursuing farming ventures and was trusted to give knowledgeable and honest assessments.
When he was a young boy, Paul was pictured with his dad, Jan H. Martinus, as they turned on the first agricultural well to usher in irrigated farming to the Lockwood Valley. As a young adult, Paul was a working partner in the farming operations of Jan H Martinus & Sons, and in the cattle operations of the Pacific Valley Cattle Company. While still actively raising cattle and dry farming, he became a real estate broker and founded Homestead Realty. For the last 32 years he has expanded grape production and in 1997, established Pacific Valley Vineyards. His label, Pacific Valley Vineyards, received a 91-points gold medal award at the Beverage Tasting Institute International wine competition in 2017.
Ocean fishing off his boats, the "Numb Butts" with family and friends filled many of his days and has provided numerous hilarious stories of those adventures. Through the years, happy times were spent at the Cayucos Cabin and Shut-Ins.
Paul loved his family and friends. The twinkle in his eye and sly grin meant he was up to something. His good heart, humor, faith, and generous spirit were and always will be a gift to his family. Through good, troubled, and even sad times, Paul was always there to help. He will be sorely missed for his self-less generosity.
He is survived by his son, Paul Mackin Martinus, his daughter-in-law, Venus Kintanar Martinus grandchildren, Inri Avery Martinus and Emily Ann Holley, stepdaughter, Kimberly Ann Holley and ex-wife Darlene Ann Martinus.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2023, at St. Luke's Church, 65500 Jolon Rd. in Jolon. A reception will follow at the home of Eric and Tricia Martinus, 67836 Jolon Rd., Lockwood.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in memory of Paul Wallace Martinus to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
