Obituary

Patricia Lee (Curl) Anthony passed away on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad, California. Patricia (Pat) was born on June 13th, 1929 to Fred and Irma Curl in Pacific Grove, California. She graduated from Salinas Union High School on June 06, 1946.

Pat met her future husband, Paul Anthony Jr., at Moss Landing's Elkhorn Yacht Club where both their fathers were active members. Pat and Paul were married August 14th, 1948 in Santa Cruz and began their 61 year marriage at the Anthony family ranch in Reliz Canyon, Greenfield. They soon moved to their new home, built by Paul and his father, on Teague Avenue overlooking the beautiful Salinas Valley.

While raising their two sons, Gary and Scott, Pat began driving truck hauling barley, beans and peas from the fields to the receiving stations and always managed to have time for her family. Around 1978, Pat and her long-time friend Pat Gill, began producing, packing and promoting fresh, plump pimientos and pimiento products out of a small packing shed south of Greenfield. They had more than their fair share of problems breaking into the tough, male dominated produce field.

Pat loved sports. She cheered her boys on at all their sports games and attended many Giants games in San Francisco. She also played lots of volleyball in the Greenfield League. Along the way, Pat took up the game of golf and loved to play as much as possible. She was very competitive. At one time she was Club Champion. She also wrote a column for the King City Rustler on golf. She continued golfing well into her 70's. Pat and Paul threw annual Easter BBQ's at their ranch in Reliz Canyon and Super Bowl parties at their home on Teague Avenue. She loved going down the Salinas River in the annual July 4th rafting trip. Pat and Paul enjoyed traveling. They made numerous trips to Hawaii. They traveled to Mexico, the Caribbean and an extended canal trip through Europe.

After Pat and Paul "retired" from farming, they began their second career in farmer's market. They brought produce to markets in Salinas, Monterey, Felton and Santa Cruz. They also delivered produce to restaurants and supermarkets. They made many new friends during this time.

Pat always had a vibrant style and attitude towards life.

Pat is preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Maria, in 1952, and her husband, Paul, in 2009. She is survived by her sons Gary (Carol) Anthony and Scott (Debbie) Anthony. Grandchildren, Matt, Paul, Callista and Kourtney. Great grandchildren, Allyssa and Layla.
