IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Jeanne
(Hayes) Pope
August 4, 1924 – January 30, 2026
On behalf of the family we are honored to present the following obituary notice:
Patricia Jeanne Hayes Pope passed away on January 30, 2026 at the age of 101 years at her home in Visalia, CA after a brief illness.
She was born in San Jose, California on August 4, 1924 to Austin and Katherine Hayes. Patricia lived in Salinas and King City for 79 years. She graduated from King City High School in 1942 and attended Salinas Junior College. Patricia married Marion Howard Pope in 1946 and raised a family of five children. They were married for 67 years. In 2014, she moved to Quail Park retirement community in Visalia where she lived until her death.
Patricia was an elementary school teacher, was employed by Basic Foods, and was office manager for Suburban Propane.
She was an extraordinarily accomplished person – an artist, pianist and vocalist, talented seamstress, an amazing home cook and avid reader. She was deeply involved in volunteer activities including Girl and Boy Scout leadership, church youth leadership, and local hospital volunteer and foundation leadership. Along with her husband, her gardening skills were the envy of the city. She was recognized as King City Junior Women's Club Mother of the Year in 1961 and was named King City Citizen of Year, along with Marion, in 1997. Patricia's patriotism was unwavering and she had a unique personal style which everyone enjoyed.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, her husband and a son-in-law. She is survived by her children Susan (Ken) Engle; Linda Wright, Dennis (Marsha) Pope, Laurie Pope, and Leslie (Frank) Kline. Patricia will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Patricia was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to many. Patricia, the last of her generation, was a blessing to her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in her honor be made to the Mee Memorial Hospital Foundation, MCARLM (Monterey County Agriculture & Rural Life Museum), or King City Grace Lutheran Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 2 at Red Tail Ranch at 12 noon after a private graveside burial at the King City Cemetery.
