Obituary

Please join the family, in celebration of Pat's life, Friday, August 23rd.

Services will be a 9:30 a.m. Rosary, 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass followed by a Celebration of Life at the DeAnza Area at San Lorenzo Park in King City.

Born December 7, 1934, Patricia Hearne – Giudici – Arena passed away peacefully at her home July 5, 2024.  Mom was the daughter of Larry & Irene Hearne, Sister to Larry Jr (Pat), Dennis (Sharon), Frank (Patty), and Tim (Kate), mother of Mary (Dave), Peter (Margie), Francis (Becky) and Catherine (Billy).

Mom spent her childhood in King City with her close-knit family.  Life consisted of chores in the house, gardening, family meals, and taking care of her brothers. She enjoyed competition and athletics of all kinds, swimming being a favorite. Mom was an avid walker and impressed all the way she chugged up Vista Place, and she also was very proud & competitive.  If you walked next to her, the challenge was on.

She married James Giudici in 1954. They started their family on the farm in San Lucas until he passed, unexpectedly, in 1958.  She loved watching crops grow in the Valley and never stopped worrying about how the weather affected them.

She volunteered whenever needed, especially at our school and church. She was extremely proud of her position as Business Manager at King City High School.  That is where she and Darrell Arena met, enjoying the next 20, very happy, years together.  They traveled through Europe, across the U.S. and loved getting away to Pismo Beach.

With Darrell, came an addition to our family adding Greg, Randelle (Ray), Michelle, Kiley (Mary), Jim (Rosie), and Megan (John).  She also developed a close relationship with her sister-in-law Patty Kosik (Jim) and brother-in-law Gil Arena (Jeannie)

Mom's pride was always driven by family.  She loved and mentored her grandkids and great grandchildren.  She was blessed with 17 caring grandchildren.  The last week of her life she met and held her newborn, 17th great-grandson, Royce, which brought her peace and joy.

A family tradition, started by Mom, is Wacky Wednesday. Each week three generations of family, as well as friends, share dinner together enjoying good food, drink, and lots of conversation, sometimes loud.  We plan to continue this gathering, knowing her spirit is always with us.

Mom was Mom.  Not only to us, but to our cousins, friends, and anyone needing someone to talk to and hug.  Since she was a Hearne, stubborn was there, but kindness prevailed.

Sadly, not all of life is easy, but Mom rose above.  We were all under four when Dad passed.  Mom's priority was always raising her children.  In addition to her two husbands, Jim and Darrell, her two brothers Larry & Mickey, a Son-In-Law, Billy Petrovic, and a Grandson, Todd Daines.

Her devout Catholic faith was strong and helped keep us together through life.  Her close connection to the Blessed Mother and praying the Rosary gave her comfort.  During the last stage of life, she was never without beads in her hands.

Our family is blessed with the tender care received from our Hospice support staff, caregivers and prayers from all of you.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Monterey Hospice of the Central Coast (they are phenomenal), the Preservation of Mission San Antonio de Padua, St. John's Catholic Church in King City, or any charity of your choice.

Mom's celebration of life will be on August 23rd beginning with a Rosary at 9:30. The mass will begin at 10:00, followed by a celebration of life at the DeAnza area at San Lorenzo Park in King City.  Join us when you can.
