Mike G. Arroyo passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at his home in King City, California, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. Born on March 23, 1940, in Salinas, California, Mike grew into a man whose life was defined by devotion—to his wife, his children, his work, and his community. He married the love of his life, Alicia, and together they built a home filled with laughter, hard work, and unwavering affection. Though he carried many nicknames—“Mr. Schlitz,” “Mr. Merlot,” and “Jefe”—the ones that lit up his eyes were the ones spoken by those closest to his heart: “Mi Amor,” “Dad,” and “Grandpa”. His sayings, like “don’t thank me, thank the good Lord” and “not too shabby” became part of the family’s little echoes of his humor and humility.

Raised in Gonzales, California, Mike graduated from Gonzales Union High School in 1958. From a young age, he worked alongside his father at Arroyo Labor, learning the value of dedication and responsibility. In 1968, he began a long chapter at the Gonzales Potato Company as a supervisor. Later, in 1984, he proudly helped Alicia establish their family business, Alicia Arroyo Inc., also known as Arroyo Labor Contracting. A year later, he stepped away from his supervisor role to manage the company’s finances—a commitment he honored until his retirement in 2017. His generosity was well known; he gave freely to anyone who asked, with special affection for the American Cancer Society, local police departments, and the local FFA.

Mike found joy in the simple pleasures that made life rich. He loved attending car shows, proudly displaying his 1964½ Mustang convertible, his 1956 Ford F-100 pickup, and occasionally his 1966 Mustang convertible. Hot August Nights in Reno, Cruisin’ Morro Bay, and Route 66 in San Bernardino were among his favorites. He earned many awards over the years, including “Car of the Day” at Hot August Nights—a moment that brought him immense pride.

He cherished Mariachi music, a good red wine, the San Francisco 49ers, and the shine of a well-made pair of boots or a polished belt buckle. He also had a tender love for gardening. His lawn, roses, grapevines, and fruit trees were tended with care and patience, each one a reflection of his gentle spirit. Mike loved to sit outside in his backyard and enjoy the evenings.

Above all, Mike was a man of love and chivalry. He adored his wife, and he showed it in countless small, meaningful ways - walking her to her car, waiting for her to return home so he could greet her, carrying her bags inside, and never letting a holiday pass without flowers. Sometimes he brought them simply because he wanted her to smile. He extended this same affection to his daughter and granddaughters, making sure they always felt cherished.

Mike’s humor, his sayings, and his generosity left an imprint on everyone who knew him. He was an extraordinary husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first. His presence was steady, comforting, and dependable—he was there whenever he was needed. He'll always be remembered by his family as "The Best in the West".

He is survived by his loving wife, Alicia Arroyo; his children, Fabricio E. Quihuis and Deborah Arroyo‑Segovia; and his grandchildren: Steven Quihuis, Anisa Quihuis, Serena Flores, Derek Quihuis, Jacob Quihuis, Jason Quihuis, Damian Quihuis, Michael Segovia, Daunte Quihuis, and Deven Segovia. He is also survived by his great‑grandchildren: Jayden Marron, Korra Flores, Gio Quihuis, and Miguel Quihuis; his children‑in‑law: Brenda Quihuis, José Segovia, and Miriam Almaraz; and his siblings: Cipriano Arroyo, Emily Goodnight, Jesus Arroyo Jr., and Helen Piini.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jesus Arroyo; his mother, Helen G. Arroyo; his son, Raul Quihuis Jr.; and his siblings Gonzalo Arroyo and Carmen Mallobox.

Services will be held at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, 116 S. Belden St., Gonzales, California. The Rosary will be held on Friday, July 31, at 7:00 p.m., and Mass will follow on Saturday, August 1st., at 12:30 p.m., with burial at the Gonzales Cemetery.
