Obituary

Mary Alyce Stephenson, 85, died peacefully Wednesday, April. 27, 2012, in her Paso Robles CA home with extended family at her side. She was born on August 6, 1926 to Marjorie and Dr. Leslie Theodore Whiting in Santa Cruz CA.

Mary attended Holy Cross School and San Jose State College preceding her marriage to Andrew Hugh Stephenson on September 12, 1949 in Santa Cruz, a union that flourished for 62 years and produced sons Jon, Mark, and Eric. In addition to providing domestic support to her spouse and family, she assisted Andrew administratively with his architectural practice.

While she enjoyed gardening, golf, bridge, camping, etc., Mary's spouse and sons were her pride and passion. She and Andrew lived in Pasadena and Ventura prior to relocating to Paso Robles in 1978. In recent years she was an active member of Paso Robles Golf Club, enjoyed domestic and international travel, and hosting her visiting sons and grandchildren. Mary's engaging smile, integrity and parental wisdom will be dearly missed by her many friends, and extended family members.

She is survived by sons Jon Scott Stephenson (Mary) of Santa Paula, CA, and Mark Jeffrey Stephenson (Kelli) of Eugene, OR.; daughter-in-law, Lucille Stephenson of Carlsbad, Calif.; loving grandchildren Jon Caytion Stephenson, Erin Nicole Stephenson, Molly Vaun Stephenson, James Andrew Stephenson and Mark Jeffrey Stephenson II.

Mary was preceded in death by her spouse Andrew and son Eric Winter Stephenson of Carlsbad. Of special note was the care she received from Drs. Thomas Harper and Joseph McCowin, and a remarkable in-house care giving team.

A memorial celebrating Mary and Andrew's legacy will be held in Atascadero at a later date.
