Obituary

Mary Louise Ansberry, 93, a former resident of San Ardo, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 5, 2024. Born on November 24, 1930, Mary Louise, affectionately known as" Mary Lou" was a King City High School graduate and salutatorian of her graduating class. After graduating from high school, Mary Lou moved to San Francisco and attended dental assistant school.  In 1955, Mary Lou was selected as one of nine young American farmers to travel to South America to assist farmers in Uruguay. There she became fluent in Spanish.

Upon returning from South America she began her career at Pacific Gas and Electric, where she worked until her retirement.

In her later years, she dedicated her time to volunteering at Martha's Kitchen, helping those in need. She had a deep love for traveling, which was a source of joy and inspiration throughout her life. This experience broadened her worldview and deepened her commitment to agricultural communities. Mary Lou was also an avid historian of her family's past. She collected and wrote many family stories and anecdotes, preserving the rich history of her ancestors.

Her interest in her French Basque roots led her to take two memorable trips to the Pyrenees, where she visited her ancestral homelands and connected with her heritage. She was connected to the community through her family's deep roots in San Ardo and the surrounding areas. Her father's involvement in the local community, including his friendships and business dealings, left a lasting impression on Mary Louise, who maintained those connections throughout her life.

Mary Louise maintained a strong sense of humor and resilience, a trait evident in the fond recollections of her father's humorous and inventive letters written from the mountains. She had a way of finding joy in simple moments, like the excitement of getting her shoes shined in Salinas or the pride in raising runts on the family ranch.

A devout Catholic, Mary Lou had a strong faith that guided her throughout her life. A cherished family tradition was attending midnight mass on Christmas Eve, a practice that reflected her deep spiritual commitment. Mary Lou was known for her resilience, sense of humor, and the ability to find joy in the simple moments of life. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her community and her faith.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian Ansberry and Hester E. Ansberry, her sister Jean Smith, and her brother John Ansberry.

She is survived by her nieces Adrienne Ansberry, Suzanne Bunberry, Patricia Wisenbaker, and Melissa Shelton Kinoshita, and by her nephews Guy Astley, John Ansberry, and Glen Ansberry
