Obituary
Mark Robert Hovis, age 51, died on July 3, 2014, in Salinas, Calif. Mark was born on July 11, 1966 in Quantico, VA to parents Robert and Shirley.
He graduated from King City Joint Union High School in 1981. He served in the U.S. Air Force for nearly a decade, before he moved to Redlands, CA and accepted a position as a Computer Programmer (IT) Specialist at Beaver Medical Group where he worked for more than 24 years.
Mark was a social, active man who was deeply passionate about astronomy, paleontology and scuba diving, and reading for the majority of his life. He enjoyed teaching children and reading. His family and friends will always remember him as a human encyclopedia, selfless, humble, his laughter and happy feet and love of all animals.
Mark is survived by his Mother, Shirley S. Hovis, of King City, CA; his brother Jeff Scott (Kristin) Hovis, of Albuquerque, NW. He is preceded in death by his Father, Robert E. Hovis, of King City, Calif.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date at VFW Post 6476, 1789 N. 8th St., Colton, Calif., 92324 from 4 to 8pm.
The family would like to thank all of Mark's friends and co-workers, including Mee Memorial Hospital, King City, CA and Natividad Medical Center for their compassionate care to the family. In lieu of flowers any donations can be made to the Redlands Humane Society.
