Obituary

Marian Bañuelos, age 89, quietly passed away at home in Greenfield, California on Monday, February 10, 2020 in the presence her family & friends.  Marian was born on October 5, 1930 on the south-side of Chicago, Illinois. Marian was 2 nd of 3 daughters of the late Jorge & Florence Jacob. Marian attended grammar schools in Chicago until about age 11. In 1942, she & her family moved out west to California & settled in Greenfield.

While attending grammar school in Greenfield, as a young Filipina girl, Marian met her childhood sweetheart, Eddie Bañuelos, who sparked a romance by passing an over-sized eraser back & forth to her in class with homework questions.  Marian would secretly pass the eraser back to Eddie with answers.  After graduating from King City High School, Eddie enlisted in the US Navy & they were married.  Their first child, Steven, was born but died at an early age from cancer.  Marian turned to her Catholic faith, prayed to God to bless her with as many children as the Lord would grant .  She had 7 more children: Mark, Craig, Dean (Dino), Susan, Patricia, Brian & Linda.  Receiving an Honorable discharge from the Navy, Eddie worked at the Economy Market. Eventually, the young couple purchased the "Friendliest Store in Town", where all 7 children worked. Marian managed the accounts receivables. Although Marian may have been small in stature, she had a strong determination, a big heart & a quiet roar to support the family business & raise her large family.

They sold the family business after 37 years, Eddie & Marian shared their love of food with the community & started E&M Catering. They were known in the valley for BBQ's & Marian was known for her home made dishes and most notably, mock ravioli.

She was a member of the American Legion Post #635 Women's Auxiliary, Greenfield Holy Trinity Church Altar Society, Parents Teacher Association, periodically a back stage mother at Pauline Hall recitals & a grammar school "room mother" over a span of many years. Marian received Mother of the Year Award from Greenfield Elementary for her involvement in children's education.

Marian was an adoring fan & cheerleader of her husband Eddie & children. She enjoyed watching the 49'ers football, SF Giants baseball & attending ballet dance recitals.  They both enjoyed traveling to Nevada to gamble.

Marian enjoyed being around people.  She showed her love by opening her house for all to have a seat at her the table & she had an open ear to listen.

Marian is survived by her children Mark, Craig, Dino & Cindy, Susan & Danny Solomon, Patty & Gene Gray, Brian & Steve Vettel, Linda & Andy Litavniks; grandchildren: Steven, Elyse & Michael, Cameron, Erin, Kristen, Kylie, Victorija, Sabrina, Chad & Stacey Comilang, Jessica Gaisford, Cherub & Frankie Berlanga; and her great-grandchildren: Natalyse, Frankie Dean, Madison Jane, Kynzi, James, Blake & Makaela.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband Eddie; son, Steven Edward; her parents Jorge & Florence Jacob & her sister, Jane Benson. She is survived by her sister Joyce & Raymond Cezar. Through thick & thin, she cherished her lifelong friendship with Arlene Azcona of 77 years & family friend Bill (William) Wilkinson.
