Obituary

Maria Herrera Ochoa, 72 of King City passed away, Thursday, April 16, 2026. She was born 1953 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Pablo and Tomasa Herrera and was raised by her grandparents, Domingo and Maria Mata, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. From a young age, Maria showed a deep commitment to education. At just 11 years old, she taught local children reading, writing, and mathematics when those opportunities were not available in her town.

She later made her home in King City, where she met and married her beloved husband, Jesus Ochoa. After coming to the United States, Maria attended night school and earned her GED. She continued taking college courses and went on to become a medical assistant, demonstrating her determination and lifelong love of learning and the service to others.

Maria dedicated over 30 years of hard work to Basic Food and Vegetables, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. She was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and her faith was an important part of her life.

Maria will be remembered for her strength, devotion to her family, and the love she shared with those around her. She worked day and night to help ensure her children could succeed, always putting their needs before her own. She found joy in collecting elephants, crocheting, and feeding her friends and family, always making sure no one left her home hungry. She adored all her compadres and enjoyed sharing a little chisme over cafecito, bringing laughter and warmth to those around her. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Calista Alexa, Caleb Jaxon, Landen, and Reilani, who brought immense happiness to her life. She built a life centered on caring for her loved ones and created lasting memories with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Jesus Ochoa; her children, Dora, Margarita, Jesus Rolando, Rosie Michelle, and Francisco; her grandchildren; her siblings, Guadalupe Herrera, Maria Casimira Guerrero, Gloria Cota, Adela Munoz, Maribel Reyes and Maria del Angel Rimiller; along with her extended family and all who cherished her. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Maria will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

“Siempre vivirá en nuestro corazon”
