Obituary

Margaret Hughes was born on a farm in Victoria, Virginia, the youngest of four children born to Thomas and Fanny Nelson.  She grew up in Victoria and attended Blackstone College for Girls. Following that she worked in Washington D. C. for a few years prior to marrying and spending the rest of her adult life in Miami and Daytona Beach Florida until moving to California in 2007 with her husband Jim due to his health issues.  Margaret will be remembered for her loving ways, welcoming smile, being a great golfer, a good oil painter, loving to sing and dance, and generally a great deal of fun !   She was preceded in death by her son, Bill Thompson and her husband Jim Hughes.

Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Erv Grau, of Templeton, California, and her only granddaughter Jocelyn of Pasadena, California.  Margaret has loving nieces Linda, Becky, Mitzi, Stephanie, and Sophie - and nephews Tom, John, and Andrew. In addition she has loving stepchildren, grandchildren and their families - Michael & Christel; Katie, Albert, Aeden, & Jonathan; James, Shilpa, Chaya, & Chandini; Andrew, Tonya & Benjamin; Jim & Eleanor; Brett, Michele, Ryan & Bridget; Jamie, Christina, Meghan & Tanner.

During Margaret's last 10 years she resided at Creston Village Assisted Living and Memory Care in Paso Robles, California.  The family is most appreciative of the North County Hospice nurses and staff and especially the many years of love, care, and activity provided by the Creston Village staff and shared with many residents who were especially fond of her.

Margaret passed away peacefully in Paso Robles, on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 8:30 p.m.  She was 100 years old.  She will be laid to rest next to her son and husband in Daytona Beach, Florida.

As always, Margaret loved, and lighted up for children – even at her 100 th birthday party only a few months ago in August 2019.
