IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynda Mae
Bailey
July 12, 1946 – November 7, 2024
Lynda Mae Bailey passed away surrounded by family on November 7, 2024, at age 78 after a two-year battle with cancer. Lynda, affectionately and proudly known as "Granny," was born on July 12, 1946, in Bakersfield, CA. She grew up in Oildale and graduated from North High School. Lynda moved to King City following her marriage to Dencil Bailey on December 20, 1963.
Lynda worked various jobs in King City before joining the Monterey County Office of Education as a Paraeducator at Gabilan School for Exceptional Children when it opened in 1982. She cared deeply for the students and families that she served and remained close to some for many years after they promoted from Gabilan. She retired in 2008 after serving children for 26 years but continued to be a passionate supporter of students with special needs throughout her life.
In addition to raising her two children, Dencil Ryan Bailey and Jennifer Bailey Taylor, Lynda was a talented seamstress. She loved to sew, quilt, and crochet. She was a member of the La Posa Chapter of the Order of the Easter Star, Grand Deputy and Mother Advisor for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and active in the King City Quilt Guild. She was well known for her beautiful and intricate quilts and loved making special items for her family and friends. Lynda's beautiful works of art will continue to be treasured by their recipients for many years. She loved animals, but her pet Yorkies held a very special place in her heart. She also loved traveling, enjoying frequent trips to see family in Arkansas or on quilt tours across the U.S. Of all her roles, Granny to her three grandchildren, Brooke, Nicole, and Zachary, was her most cherished. She was known for sharing photos, stories, and proud moments of her grandchildren, and she was grateful for every moment spent with them.
Lynda is survived by her former husband, Dencil; her son, Ryan; daughter, Jennifer (Scott); grandchildren, Nicole Bailey Estrada (Ryan), Brooke Taylor, Zachary Taylor; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Newton Lewis and Lillie Mae Lewis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to charities that support cancer research and patient care, animal rescues, children with special needs, or a charity of your choice. Some of Granny's favorite non-profits were the Hope Harvest Festival Cancer Fund and Unconditional Love Pet Rescue.
