IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lola Marie
Ellington
November 28, 1929 – December 28, 2021
On Tuesday, December 28, 2021, Lola Marie Nipper Ellington, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at age 92.
Lola was born November 28, 1929 in Arkansas to Theo and Katie (Barron) Nipper, the second oldest of 12 children. When she was young Lola would often play house with the children of the family next door. She was always the "mama" and the boy next door, Tony, was always the "papa". They always remained close and after they had been dating for some time in their twenties, Tony wrote a letter to Lola from Germany where he was stationed with the U.S. Army asking her to leave St. Louis, Missouri where she was working and come to California. Tony and Lola would "play house" for the next 56 years together.
They married March 25, 1953, settled in Greenfield, California and raised four children together, Deborah (Israel) Soliz, Katie (Anthony) Hernandez, Pamela (Jim) Keown, and Tony (Kellie Harper) Ellington.
Lola was a devoted Christian and member of the 1 st Southern Baptist Church in Greenfield. The church family looked forward to her homemade chicken and dumplings at their potlucks.
Lola had a passion for cooking, gardening, and family. She enjoyed telling stories of her days on her family's farm and continued her family's tradition of growing their own vegetables and canning and making her own jams and jellies. She was famous for her yeast dinner rolls on holidays.
Lola was preceded in death by her dear husband, Tony Ray Ellington; three brothers, William Marshall (infant), Frank, and Benjamin; and her five sisters, Alice, Tressie, Genevieve, Tommie, and Peggy.
In addition to her children Lola is survived by her grandchildren, Aaron (Kimberly) Ellington, Kiersten, Kylie, and Kelsey, Josh (Rosie) Madderra, Jason Madderra, Jacob (Alicia) Hernandez, Tagen Patterson, Nathaniel & Eleanor, Timothy (Megan Keefer) Hernandez, Margo & Theo, Stephanie (Oscar Martinez) Hernandez, Amanda (Kyle Jackson) Keown, Aaden Jackson, Sean (Amy) Keown, Kylie and Quinn.
Lola is further survived by three sisters, Frances Flores, twin sisters, Lue Jones and Sue Yokel, and her sister-in-law Alma Sterling, and other family and friends. Last, but not least her beloved Chihuahua, Little Jed.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Roberto Tongson and his staff, Pacific Coast Post Accute Center, and Mee Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing facility.
