IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Juan Gonzalez
Avila
June 24, 1947 – August 1, 2025
Juan Gonzalez Avila, 78, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of unwavering faith, Juan lived a full and generous life rooted in love, hard work, and service.
Born on June 24, 1947, in Santiago de Tepechitlán, Zacatecas, Mexico, Juan was the son of Crescenciano Avila Lamas and Maurilia Gonzalez Lujan. In 1971, he made Monterey County his home, where he would go on to raise a large family. He spent the last 21 years living in Lockwood, where he enjoyed the peace and space of rural life.
He married the love of his life, Leticia Flores Avila, with whom he shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised six children: Israel, Isaac, Abraham, Anna, Daniel, and Peter. Juan was also a proud grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. To all his family, he was affectionately and simply known as "Dad".
Juan worked as a tractor operator for General Vineyard Services for 32 years, known for his diligence, reliability, and dedication to his work. Though he received formal education only through elementary school, his wisdom and insight were profound, and his life was a testament to the values of integrity and perseverance.
Outside of work, Juan was happiest when tending to his garden or taking road trips to explore Monterey County and beyond. He enjoyed caring for animals, especially the feral cats that roam the family ranch—savoring pan dulce, sipping red wine or coffee, and dining at one of his favorite spots, the Black Bear Diner.
Faith was the cornerstone of Juan's life. He was an active member of the Christian community, serving faithfully as a preacher at Templo Bethania. His humble yet powerful preaching touched many, and he was frequently invited to speak at churches throughout the region.
He is survived by his beloved wife Leticia; his six children and their spouses; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Ma. Guadalupe Avila Gonzalez, Salatiel Avila Gonzalez, and Joel Avila Gonzalez.
Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Crescenciano and Maurilia. He will be laid to rest in the same cemetery as his father, continuing a legacy of familial love and deep roots.
Juan Gonzalez Avila's life was one of quiet generosity, enduring faith, and deep love for his family and community. His presence will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on in all who had the privilege to know him.

Juan Gonzalez Avila
