Josie Helen Vanetti, 97 of Hollister passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Hazel Hawkins Convalescent Hospital North Side in Hollister Calif.
GRAVESIDE SERVICES:
A Graveside Service is scheduled for 2pm, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the IOOF Odd Fellows Cemetery, Buena Vista Road at Acacia Court, Hollister, Calif.
Josie was born in Neosho, Missouri. She moved to California with her family as her father worked drilling water wells for irrigation in the many states they traveled thru in order to make their way west. While their travels took them back east to Florida following work the family finally settled in Hollister.
Josie was introduced to Ernest C. Vanetti who worked with her brother at the Hollister Canning Company. They soon were married and homesteaded their first home on the Maggini Ranch between Hollister and King City. They lived there from 1931 to 1982. They then moved to Hollister. Together they raised four children.
Josie enjoyed gardening, working in the fruit orchard, quilting, cooking and baking. She made the greatest baked bread and fried pies. She could make a tasty polenta stew with quail meat. The children always had sandwiches for their school lunches made with her homemade bread. She and her husband Ernest were "Rock Hounds". They belonged to the Carmel Valley Gem and Mineral Club. They spent hours collected gem stones, sapphires, garnets and such. She was a past member of the Home Department (women's club), Bitterwater Grange and a 4-H Leader. She cherished her time spent with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Josie is survived by her children, Fleta Andrade, Shirley Rist and Francis "Bud" Vanetti; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Charles Vanetti; her son, Ernest Lee Vanetti; her daughter-in-law, Virginia Vanetti; 8 brothers and 2 sisters.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for assistance to help with funeral expenses. Any donations may be directed to Eddington Funeral Services, 333 E. San Antonio Drive, King City, CA 93930 to help.
