IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jesus "Jesse"
Manuel Gomez
September 16, 1947 – February 6, 2026
Jesus "Jesse" Manuel Gomez passed away February 6th, 2026 in Salinas, California surrounded by his wife of 54 years, three children, and younger brother, Manuel Gomez.
Jesse was born September 16th, 1947 to Manuel and Eustolia Gomez in McAllen, Texas. Affectionately known as "Chuy" to family and friends, he was the eldest of five siblings. Jesse grew up in McAllen, graduating from McAllen High School in 1967. Following graduation, he followed his family, who had moved to King City, California the year before. He would live in San Diego for a year, then return to King City, where he would spend the remainder of his life.
Jesse received an associate degree in criminology and subsequently attended the police academy. Jesse's following year was spent in San Diego, as part of the San Diego Police Department. He returned to King City after leaving the police department, joining his father at Cal Compac Foods. Jesse went on to spend more than 30 years as a supervisor for the dehydration plant, which later transitioned to Basic Foods, and ultimately Gilroy Foods. As his children grew, Jesse opted to work night shifts, so that he could be present in their lives.
One of Jesse/Chuy's loves was football. Having played football for McAllen High School, he continued his passion at Hartnell College, following his arrival in King City, California. Jesse was a member of the Hartnell 1967 football team which were state champs. His team was later inducted into the school Hall of Fame in 2015. Jesse continued playing football for Hartnell until he became injured. From then on, he pursued his passion through coaching. Jesse coached his youngest brother, brother-in-law, and son, as well as a multitude of others within the community as the head coach for the King City Pop Warner program. As a coach for the recreation center, Jesse was also able to coach his son in basketball.
Family was of the utmost importance to Jesse. He was a present father, attending all sporting events. He participated in fundraisers, helped the Mustang bench, and assisted as a cameraman during games. Jesse loved to barbecue, offering his time and expertise to the King City Little League and the Guadalupana Society. He square danced with his wife for many years, with the local Valley Swingers club. Jesse was also a past member of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus and enjoyed attending their social events.
Jesse is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Eustolia Gomez. He is survived by his wife, Aurora, his children: Leah (Enrique Jr.) Rodriguez, Cynthia Gomez, and Aaron (Lucy) Gomez. He is also survived by his siblings Manuel (Mary) Gomez, Rogelio Gomez, Maricela (Tom) Daniels, and Alfredo (Gloria) Gomez, numerous nieces/nephews, and his grandchildren: Paisley and Otto Gomez.
Known for his humor, Jesse delighted in storytelling and making people laugh. An unpredictable man, with wit beyond measure. He will be missed incredibly.
