Obituary

Jacqueline Juanita Kent Anderson was born on March 31, 1941 in St. Ignatius, Montana, and spent her early youth in Phillipsburg, Montana and then later in Anaconda, Montana with her older sister Beth, and younger brothers, Doug and George.

After high school, she worked summers at Yellowstone National Park where she met her husband-to-be, Peter Anderson. She and Peter lived in San Francisco in the 1960's. She graduated with a degree in English literature from UC Berkeley and worked as a teacher in Minnesota while her husband attended law school. After she had her first son, Peter "Andy", they moved to King City, California. She had two more children, Amy and Seth. She and Peter opened their home up as a foster home for 23 foster children, of various lengths of stay, and did volunteer work in the local community teaching swim lessons and being involved with scouting. After earning her Master's degree, she taught English at the local high school for 25 years. She was especially good at teaching students to love literature and to write good essays. She spent one year abroad teaching in Galashiels, Scotland and another year teaching in Egersund, Norway under the National Fulbright Teaching Program. She also worked in the BTSA program as both a mentor for new teachers and a trainer of mentors. After retirement, she participated and then led high school accreditation teams for WASC to evaluate schools throughout the state. She volunteered as a docent at the local Agricultural museum for youth programs. At the age of 79, she completed her training to be a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster children. She traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, North America, and even Antarctica. Her boat trip to Antarctica on the Clelia II made international news when it had engine trouble and was filmed being tossed around by waves. Her favorite places to go were closer to home. She spent many happy days hiking and cross country skiing in national parks and forests. She loved visiting the family cabin in the Los Padres National Forest. She also liked going to the Lakehouse near Bass Lake. Just this October, she and Peter took a cruise on the Columbia River and hiked to Multnomah Falls.

On December 11, she had an early Christmas with her husband Peter, all her children and their spouses, Peter "Andy" and Kim, Amy and David, Seth and Courtney, and her seven grandchildren: Robert, Josette, Naudus, Steven, Oliver, Luke, and Steele. Jackie was very proud of her children. Her eldest, Peter "Andy", holds an MBA from UC Davis. Amy has a MA and several credentials. Seth is a Colonel in the Marines and in charge of Marine Intelligence schools. Besides her husband, several children, and grandchildren, Jackie loved books and was a prolific reader. She got a lot of enjoyment from pets through the years but mostly her dog, Ole.

She passed away peacefully on December 29, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum Youth (MCARLM) programs and the Monterey County CASA program for foster youth. There will be no services.
