Obituary

Howard Barrie Johnson, age 82 of King City passed away on February 7, 2015 at Mee Memorial Hospital.

Barrie was 82 years old and was born in San Jose, California, the first of three children. He grew up in Salinas, California, and was a graduate of Salinas High School and Hartnell College, where he studied Ag Science.

Barrie served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was in the 319th Fighter Interceptor Squadron as an F86 mechanic at George Air Force base in Victorville, California. He then went to Japan, serving at the Tsuiki Air Field and the Johnson Air base near Tokyo.

After the war, he worked as an airplane mechanic, branding inspector, and ranch hand around San Benito and Monterey County until coming to the Isabel Valley Ranch east of San Jose in 1972. He worked as a rancher there for nearly 40 years. Barrie was a renowned and respected horseman known by cattlemen from around the country. He was also a fervent San Francisco 49ner and Giants fan and enjoyed listening and watching the games with his family and friends.

Barrie is survived by both ex-spouses Ruth Lopes and Cecelia Eade and his children Marty (Leslie) Johnson, Tom (Stacey) Johnson, Jason (Donna) Johnson, Jim (Bernadette) Gilligan, Julie (Jim) Dunlap, Jill (Mike) Manges, his 15 grand-children, and 1 great-grand child. Barrie is predeceased by his sister Nancy and brother Ron.
