IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold "Howie"
Herbert Stoughton
September 24, 1942 – September 14, 2024
Harold Herbert Stoughton Sr., affectionately known by most as "Howie," passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 81 years old.
Born on September 24, 1942, in King City, California, Howie spent his entire life in South Monterey County, deeply rooted in the community he cherished. He devoted his career to the farming industry, beginning at the age of 16 with Jack Hayes Ranch. Throughout the years, Howie worked at Pure Grow, Western Farms, and eventually NH3 Fertilizer Company, where he retired at the age of 71.
In 1962, Howie married his high school sweetheart, Lynda Rae Barlogio. Their love story spanned 60 beautiful and at times crazy years. Together, they raised two children, a daughter, Annette Lorene Stoughton-Chavez, and a son, Harold Stoughton Jr.
Howie was a beloved Papa to three grandchildren: Kayla Chavez-Tafoya, Dakota Stoughton-Sisson, and Colton Stoughton. He was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Jayden Cole, Kyriana Rose, Arabella Grace, Jaxtyn Ace, Harlynn Kate, Lorelia Ann, Audrey Jean, Payton Rae, and Luke Alan all of whom he adored.
In his younger years, Howie enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He was an avid hunter, a fierce competitor in demolition derbies, and a skilled softball pitcher, a passion he maintained until the age of 66. After retiring, Howie discovered a new passion: golf! His son Jr showed him the basics, and he was immediately hooked. It quickly became a favorite pastime, earning him the nickname "Hound Dog" at the King City Golf Course. He became a regular on the green, playing as often as Lynda would allow. His infectious love for the sport and his warm presence endeared him to many.
Howie will be remembered for his work ethic, his love for his family, and his unshakable spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Howie's memory to the VNA (Visiting Nurse Association).
