IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory Allan
Martella
August 20, 1963 – December 11, 2020
Gregory Allan Martella was taken from this earth on December 11, 2020 in Salinas CA. Greg began his incredible life on August 20, 1963, born in King City CA to mother Mary Lou Martella and father Carol Martella. Spending his earliest years and most of his adult life in Greenfield CA where he was loved and cherished by the small community. Greg was always known for his big heart and love for everyone striving to bring joy and happiness to anyone he encountered.
Greg grew up in Greenfield CA which will always be his home at heart. He began his education at San Vicente Elementary School in Soledad followed by Bard Blades School in Salinas. He graduated from King City High School proud to be a student of Homeroom 222. He worked as a busboy at both Perko's and Soledad Bowling Alley which was his favorite because of his love of bowling.
Greg loved many things in life and definitely lived his life to the fullest. He was a regular at the Special Olympics competing in frisbee, shot put, relay races, and his favorite basketball. He rarely missed a Saturday basketball game with friends and family. Greg looked forward to the King City Fair every year with great anticipation and couldn't get enough of the Tilt-A-Whirl and corn dogs. Greg's favorite pastimes were his wide collections of movies that he couldn't watch enough times to bore with the Wizard of Oz being his favorite. He also loved music with Madonna and Shania Twain topping his charts. At events with a dance floor and microphone, Greg couldn't be kept from showing his steps off and making you believe he was the biggest Billy Ray Cyrus fan alive as he belted out "Achy Breaky Heart." He loved to travel to see family and the occasional trip to Reno to win big on the nickel slots. You can be assured Greg would never let you forget his birthday.
Greg is survived by both his loving parents, Mary Lou and Carol Martella of Salinas CA, and four loving sisters, Margaret Bassetti of Bradley CA, Cathy Martella (George Amaral) of Salinas CA, Valarie Amaral (Carlos) of Gonzalez CA, and Carol Hennington (Chris) of Houston TX. Also surviving Greg is Richard Partida "his Big Brother," and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved and cherished him.
When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. Greg's memory will be that treasure carried in our hearts forever. A special thank you to Dr. Ponzio and the incredible staff at Windsor Ridge Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Special Olympics, www.specialolympics.org or to the charity of your choice.
