Gary Dean Battenfeld, 68 of South Monterey County passed away on July 19, 2015 at Paradise Valley Care in Atascadero, Calif. Gary was born September 20, 1946 in Oakland, Calif.

After graduating from High School, Gary was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1966 to 1969. His tour of duty took him to Vietnam.

Gary enjoyed riding Harleys with his "Baby" by his side; barbequing with family, friends and neighbors and spending time with his beloved dogs, Cheyenne and Freckles. He liked movies of action and comedy. He was a former member of the American Legion, Harley Owners Group, the Monterey County Chapter and a member of VFW Post 6747.

Gary is survived by his wife of 18 years, Leslie Breiling Battenfeld; children, Rachele Hutchinson (Shawn) of Placerville and Jason Battenfeld of Sacramento, Amy Gann of Paso Robles and Karen Moore (Riley) of Lompoc; grandchildren, Krystal Gibbs of Portland, Oregon, Ashlea Grabach of Placerville, Cynthia Battenfeld, Diego Battenfield and Branden Grabach of Sacramento; sister, Celeste Martin of the Bay Area and numerous nieces and nephews.

Those wishing to may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association, American Diabetes Association or to the SPCA of Monterey County.

A MEMORIAL CELEBRATION of Gary's Life will be held, 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2015 at Eddington Funeral Services.
