Frances Johansen, 94 of Greenfield, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Eden Valley Care in Soledad.

SERVICE INFORMATION:

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Greenfield Methodist Church on the corner of 9th Street and Palm Avenue, Greenfield, Calif.

Frances was the 9th born of 10 children to Thomas and Pearl Rogers.

Frances was a lifelong resident of Greenfield. She attended Greenfield Elementary Schools and King City High School. After her school years she helped on the family ranch harvesting apricots, pears and goose berries. In 1937 she married Louis Johansen. Together they raised four children; Virginia, Evie, James and Tom.

She worked as the County Librarian from 1949 to 1981. There she enjoyed helping many children with their school work. She enjoyed traveling with her husband; shopping; and she was very active in the Greenfield Methodist Church. She had been a parishioner there since early childhood. Frances loved helping people and sharing her baked goods. She was a past member of The Rebekah Lodge in King City; a 44 year volunteer with the Salvation Army; member of the Greenfield Grange and past member of Silver King's and Queens. Frances volunteered with the Service League and was a past Board of Trustee for Mee Memorial Hospital; she was the first woman to serve on the Greenfield City Counsel where she served for twelve years and was Mayor Pro-tem. Frances was a Life Line caller in Greenfield for many years.

Frances is survived by her children, Virginia (Clyde) McCollough, Evie Perez, James (Shirley) Johansen, Tom (Jodie) Johansen; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Louis Johansen; grandson, Norm McCollough and son-in-law, Crespin Perez.
