Ferne Leslie, aged 81, of Paso Robles, transcended peacefully on June 28, 2014 at Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton, California from complications related to her COPD. Ferne was born April 12, 1933 in Wilmington, California, the daughter of George Frederick Huxtable and Bernice Emma Nelson.
Family and friends were Ferne's passion and delight. She especially enjoyed attending her grandson's sporting events, music performances and awards presentations; she also enjoyed keeping-up with her friends and family on Facebook.
Ferne loved to host and entertain - every holiday was a cause for celebration, and her gift wrapping was a work of art. She was a wonderful cook that could whip up anything from scratch, and her Monte Cristo sandwiches were legendary. Her favorite place to visit was the beach, especially if she could comb for shells, and dine on fish & chips with a cold Budweiser. She was also a voracious reader. Before Google, she always had a set of Encyclopedia Britannica's on hand to reference.
Ferne had been a resident of San Luis Obispo County since 1976. She worked as an Accountant and Controller for San Luis Tank and Piping for twenty years, and before that at Mathew's Electric, both in Paso Robles. She volunteered several years at the Estrella Warbird Museum and was a member of the Paso Robles Senior Center; volunteering for many years as their book club hostess and as a Free Rides 4 Seniors driver.
She leaves her daughters Laura Lynn and Lynda Holt, son Lee Leslie and his wife Aimee, and grandchildren, Harley, Cameron, Emma and Joshua. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and a host of long-time friends, including her "Tankees". She was preceded in death by her husband, George Leslie, and her loving brother, Les Huxtable.
There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains.
Per her request, her ashes were scattered at sea, along with a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paso Robles Library Foundation at 1000 Spring Street, Paso Robles, Ca. 93446, phone 805.237.3870.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Twin Cities Hospital and Eddington Funeral Services for providing wonderful care and service at this difficult time.
