King City lost one of her most beloved friends with the passing of Evelyn Peterson on March 20, 2015. Born Evelyn Marie Hilfiker on May 1, 1927 in Salem, Oregon to Bernard and Emma (Fabry) Hilfiker. Raised on the family farm to a pioneering family decending from Switzerland, Evelyn developed a strong work ethic, graceful dignity, and impeccable moral character.
Evelyn attended Williamette University and graduated from Oregon State College of Education. She met and married Moylen Peterson in 1953 while teaching school in Portland. In 1955, they chose King City to build a wonderful life and raise their family. Working beside her husband, it was the beginning of a successful dental and real estate career spanning 60 years.
Evelyn's family was the focus and love of her life. Her hobbies included tole painting, knitting, golfing, and dancing. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and several bridge clubs. In her later years she delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, the beach, and her Santa Barbara vacation home.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy, in 1973 and her husband of 57 years, Moylen, in 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda (Justin) Allred, of King City; son, Eric Peterson, of Santa Barbara; son, Maury Peterson, of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren: Joseph Sproul, Tyler Allred, Nancy Allred, Chris Peterson and Sara Peterson.
Evelyn cherished spending time with her family and requested of her friends, in lieu of flowers or donations, to spend quality time with their loved ones.
