Evangelina Chavez de Hernandez, 80 of Greenfield passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at her home with her family by her side.  She was born August 7, 1940 in Las Hiqueras de Achota, Sinaloa, Mexico.

She was a housewife and enjoyed gardening and hand stitching.  She loved reading novels and the Catholic Bible.  She was happily married for 63 years.  She had 6 children, 4 sons and 2 daughters.  Eva became a naturalized citizen with her husband.  Her employment history included working for Basic Vegetable Products sorting garlic and onions.  She also worked picking oranges in Lidsay, Calif.  She picked California chiles, and tomatoes in the Salinas Valley.  She worked sorting carrots, tomatoes for Frudden Produce Company, chile for Cal Company and asparagus in Soledad.

She was very proud of her children's education and accomplishments.  Her oldest son Angel studied mechanics. Jose Luis studied at Chico State University.  Oscar Alfonso Jr. achieved a BS in Biology from San Diego State University and a Doctorate from UCLA Drew Medical School.  Robert graduated from Arizona Technical Institute.  Valentina graduated from San Diego State University in Mexican American studies with a minor in Business Marketing, MS in counseling and school psychology from San Diego State University, a Masters in Education from Harvard University in Human Development, a Clear BCLAD multiple subject and clear single subject Spanish language other than English teaching credential.  Nora the youngest child was the only US born child and got a Liberal Studies BA from San Diego State University and is a teacher.

Evangelina was a parishioner of Greenfield Holy Trinity Church.  She was a promoter in the importance of getting a high school education.  All of her children graduated from King City High School.

She is survived by her husband Oscar Hernandez and her children, Angel Ignacio, Jose Luis, Oscar Alfonso Jr., Valentina, and Nora Hernandez.

SERVICE INFORMATION:

A Visitation with limited attendance will be held on Monday, January 25 th from 4pm to 7pm at Eddington Funeral Services Chapel, 429 Bassett Street in King City.  A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held starting at 10am on Tuesday, January 26 th , at St. John's Catholic church, 504 N. Third St. in King City.
