Obituary

Elida "Ellie" Rodriguez Torres passed away on Thursday, February 23 rd 2023 in King City, California, surrounded by her loving sister, who cared for her.

Ellie was born on March 26 th , 1941 in Robstown, Texas to Pablo and Francisca Torres. She was the eldest of six siblings. Ellie grew up in Robstown, Texas until 1959 when her family moved to King City, California for a short time. The family then moved to Antioch, California, followed by two years spent in Oroville, where her father worked on the Oroville dam. Upon completion of the dam, the family would return to King City, California, where she would spend the remainder of her life.

Ellie completed her GED shortly after returning to King City. Her work history included a season spent as a floor lady for Basic Vegetable Products, until she was hired by SoMoCo. Medical Group as a nurse's assistant. As a nurse's assistant, she assisted many of King City's prestigious doctors, which includes Dr's: Fischer, Nash, Hyde, Goenne, Clark, Harrison, Tongson, and many other SoMoCo. Physicians and Specialists. Ellie was also hired as a translator for Mee Memorial Hospital. She would retire under Dr. Harrison's practice. Upon retirement, Ellie would volunteer as a "pink lady" for the Mee Memorial Hospital service auxiliary league.

After the death of her father, Ellie moved in to live with, accompany, and care for her ailing and elderly mother. Ellie would care for her for the next 23 years, until her mother's death. Over the years, Ellie shared a strong bond with her sister and her sister's children. She was always seen supporting her nieces and nephews, rain or shine. She and her sister's family were incredibly close, celebrating important occasions together as a family, which brought her joy. She adored travelling with family to Disneyland, Texas, Washington, and Washington D.C. Ellie also enjoyed attending concerts at various venues including the Mid-State Fair, and trips to see her favorite San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors. She had a love of cats and would feed and care for every stray. Ellie was a deeply religious woman, who sang in the St. John's choir and attended mass weekly, before becoming ill. Her hobbies included ceramics, sewing, and gardening, which brought her happiness. She was also a past member of the Guadalupana Society.
