Obituary

Edwin "Buddy" Elmer Bergersen of King City, born July 30, 1926 passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at Mee Memorial Hospital, King City, California after a brief illness.

His needs were administered to by the wonderful staff at Mee Memorial Hospital and his long-time friends Carl Camany, Nessen Schmidt and Larry Hardin.

Buddy was the son of Hilmar (Elmer) Gunvald Bergersen born in Hamar, Norway (1882-1958) and Elvira ("Vi") Beebe (1889-1971) of King City. Buddy was the grandson of Norwegian immigrants who travelled from San Francisco in 1885 to Homestead property in Jolon. Gunnar (1841-1915) and Martina (Stengel) Bergersen (1852-1931) managed a wheat ranch. Gunnar was also a baker commuting to San Francisco. They had five children Einer Bredo Bergersen (who died in infancy 1879); Einar Bertram Bergersen (1880-1932); Hilmar (Elmer) Gunvald Bergersen (1882-1958); Marie Olivie Kristiane ("Lillie") Bergersen (1884-1894); Ragna Julia (Bergersen) Cairns; (1888-1982); Dagny Louise (Bergersen) Jacobsen (1889-1979).

Buddy spent his entire life in the King City area, graduating from King City High School and was inducted into WWII. As the only son he was released to help with the family farms (King City and Jolon). His uncle, Edwin W. Beebe was a causality of WWI, a member of the 59th Infantry, Machine Gun Battalion, dying at his post of duty in France on August 10, 1918 at the age of 27. Buddy's interest were farming, tractors and Hereford cattle.

Buddy leaves behind several cousins: Diane (Hasselo) Carvey of Gaithersburg, Md.; Catherine (Carpenter) Bartley of Bradley, Ca.; Deborah Carpenter of Desert Hot Springs, Ca.; Dean Enderlin of Calistoga, Ca.; Helen (Blomquist) Camany of Lockwood, Ca.; Patsy (Blomquist) Amery of Bradley, Ca; Julie Hurley of Georgetown, Ma.; Melissa Foslien of Lockwood, Ca.; and Chandra Pivo of Rancho Mirage, Ca. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer, in 1958; mother, Vi, in 1971 and sister Florence Louise in 1975.

Family graveside services will be held at King City Cemetery on ___(TBA)____. Donations on his behalf can be sent to the Nacitone Regional Interpretive Center, P. O. Box 278, Lockwood, CA 93932.
