Douglas R. Martella, 76 of King City passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Community Hospital in Monterey with his family by his side.  Doug was born July 20, 1940 in Salinas, California.

Doug attended and graduated from King City High School.  He went on to Hartnell College until he joined the United States Navy.  After his tour of duty, he returned to King City and became a Retail Clerk.  He retired from Safeway after 38 years.

Doug married the love of his life, Peggy Miller.  They celebrated 52 years of marriage.  His son Kevin and grandson Justin were the joy in his life.  He also enjoyed spending time with his daughter-in-law, Cindy and granddaughters Devon and Bailee.  Doug was a special and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews.  He loved to spoil them and they loved to be spoiled.  He was the best brother-in-law anyone could ask for.  Until his illness prevented him from doing so, Doug loved to golf.  He really loved to go out of town to golf with his buddys, Laz and Zoli.  Doug was also an animal lover.  He loved his dogs and cats.

Doug was a parishioner of St. John's Catholic Church; a member of Silver Kings and Queens, and also a member of the King City Men's Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Martella; son, Kevin Martella (Cindy), grandson, Justin Martella; granddaughters, Devon Rusconi and Bailee Rusconi; numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Loretta Martella Dunn; brother and sister-in-laws, Ron and Sue Miller, Bob and Denise Miller, Jim and Patti Miller, and Paul and Debbie King.

A Viewing is scheduled for Monday, March 13, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Eddington Funeral Services Chapel in King City.  A Funeral Mass will be held, 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at St. John's Catholic Church, 504 N. Third Street, King City.
