Obituary

Dorothy Ellen Gillett, 80, long time resident of Lockwood, Calif. passed away at her home on Saturday, October 8, 2016. She was born July 19, 1936 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Her family moved to South Monterey County when she was 5 years old. She was the youngest of three siblings.

Dorothy attended and graduated from King City Joint Union High School. She married her High School Sweetheart, Richard "Dick" Gillett in 1954. They moved to Lockwood, Calif. in 1961, where she has lived ever since. Together they had two sons, David and Donald.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, stamping, crafting and playing pedro and loved to go out to dinner. She was a very generous, giving, selfless and loving woman. She always knew what to get you for your birthday, Xmas or special occasion, because you see, she kept a list of everyone's shoes, pants and shirt sizes. She even kept a list of what type of gun or rifle you had so she could buy you the right ammunition if she wanted and often did just that. She was strong and independent. She was a member of the Native Daughters of California, San Miguel Chapter.

There's no question, her family was most important to her. She loved spending time with them and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. You could say her favorite hobby was spending time with those grandchildren and great grandchildren. She said, "If I could travel the world, I would pass it up to spend with family."

Dorothy is survived by her sons, David and Donald Gillett; grandchildren, Darcy (Travis) Domingos, Brandon (Melinda) Gillett and Richard (Mindy) Gillett; great grandchildren, Amelia Gillett, Cienna Domingos and Carson Domingos; sister, Phyllis. She is preceded in death by her husband Dick Gillett in 1982; parents, Louie and Grace Souza; sister, Lou Ann.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
