Donald Scott McCorkle, 87 of King City passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024. He was born August 23, 1936 in Salinas, California to Muriel and Stan McCorkle. He was the middle brother to Lee McCorkle (Ellen) and Bob McCorkle (Mary).

He spent his early years in Soledad, on the family ranch near the Pinnacles. His family moved to Glenn, California during his high school years, where he graduated from Willows High School and then continuing on to graduate from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  One of the highlights of his time at Cal Poly was participating in the Marching Band and helping with the Rose Parade float.

He proudly served his country in the Army Reserves.

Don worked in agriculture his entire life. Starting with working on the family ranch with his father and brothers, and later as a manager at Cal Compac.

He and his wife Patty married on July 23, 1960. They had four daughters Syndy McCorkle, Mashael Brown, Jenna McCorkle, and Elizabeth (Boo) Sando (deceased) and two granddaughters Adrienne Brown and Danielle Simons.

Don had three passions in life, hunting, the 49'rs and his family. He would often travel out of state to pursue his hunting with family and friends.  With four daughters, he learned more about fashion, makeup and how to share a bathroom than he wanted. Everyone knew that when the 49'rs were playing everything stopped. And if they happened to lose, proceed with caution!

He had a dry sense of humor and was a good friend to many. Children and animals always seemed to gravitate to him. He played a mean game of tic tac toe and was always a sucker for a belly rub.

He was an avid church attendee and was strong in his faith.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for June 20th 11:00 am, First Baptist Church, 450 King St., King City. In lieu of flowers please donate to the cancer research program of your choice.
