Dario J. Aguirre, 93 of San Lucas passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 in San Diego with his family by his side. He was born Nov 16, 1922 in Ranger, Texas. When his father was working for the railroad, Dario, his mother, brothers, sisters, and father traveled up and down the United States. This was when he discovered his fondness for California. He helped his mom raise his sisters and brothers after his father passed away. He worked to provide for them. Dario married Margarita Serrato in September of 1948. They lived in La Piedad, Mexico. After the birth of Jose and Maria, Dario and Margarita moved to Southern Salinas Valley, California and made their home in San Lucas. Dario and Margarita's children are; Jose (Cindy), Maria (Albert), Dario Jr. (Jody), Margarita (Johnny), Rosario, Benjamin, Alma, Juan (Leticia) and Jesus.
Dario was extremely involved in the United Farm Workers movement and very close to Cesar Chavez. He was very proud of that. He was a body guard for him. He helped to form the union in the area. When Cesar Chavez passed away Dario was one of the first ones notified before it went out to news. Following that, he worked for Mr. Trescony, nearby ranches, and Las Colinas vineyard. He tamed horses and worked with them on the Trescony Ranch. Dario liked working outdoors, gardening, and doing handy work around the house. He cherished being with his family. He would often take the family on Sunday trips to visit the local missions.
Dario was a strong individual, not just physically, but mentally both in heart and soul. He believed in family values, fairness and honesty. He worked hard and believed his children should, as well. He believed in God and Country. When his children turned 18 years old he made sure they registered to vote. He told them, if you didn't register to vote, you didn't have the right to argue your views. Dario instilled in his children that you should always be respectful to others. That didn't mean he wouldn't speak his mind. He was strong willed and often enjoyed a healthy debate, most always winning.
He is survived by his children; Dario Jr., Margarita, Rosario, Benjamin, Alma, Juan, and Jesus; brothers, Pedro, Alberto and David; sisters, Elena, Rebecca and Lupita; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Margarita; daughter, Maria; son Jose; brothers, Jose and Juan.
