SERVICES
A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Greenfield Holy Trinity Catholic Church, corner of Elm St. and El Camino Real. Interment followed at King City District Cemetery.
She was born Clementine Pieri in Dos Palos, California, on Apr. 10, 1916 and grew up in Santa Cruz with her older sisters, Jessie, Sadie and Toni. An enthusiastic student, Clementine excelled in high school and went on to San Jose State with the aim of becoming a teacher.
She began her career in education at Mission Soledad, before moving in 1939 to Greenfield, where she lived for the rest of her life. Over more than 20 years as an elementary school teacher and administrator in Greenfield, King City and San Ardo, Clementine won wide respect as a dedicated and popular educator who is remembered fondly by several generations of former students.
Clementine was a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Association of University Women, California Women for Agriculture, and the King City Teachers Association. In the 1950s, she also served as a board member of the Greenfield elementary school, where she promoted the building of kindergarten classrooms and the school's first cafeteria and new administrative offices.
While teaching in Greenfield, Clementine met and married local farmer Raphael "Ray" Pura in 1945 and moved to the ranch house home where she lived the rest of her life. They had two sons, Raphael (Rocci) in 1946 and Randall (Randy) in 1951. Clementine's home became the center of social activities for family and friends for decades to follow.
Following her retirement from teaching, Clementine helped in the management of the family farm. A voracious reader, Clementine also loved to travel, taking journeys to Europe and Asia with her husband, before his death in 1994. In her later years, Clementine enjoyed visits and activities with family members and tracking the careers and adventures of her sons and her five grandchildren, Natassia, Cyrus, Katrina, Nolan and Marco from her ranch house kitchen "headquarters".
Clementine is survived by her sons and grandchildren.
