Charles "Tom" Grim passed away at the age of 85 on Monday, July 1, 2019. Tom was born on May 14, 1934 in Santa Barbara, California. His family moved to King City in 1937 when his father Ree C. Grim, and mother Vera (Pacheco) Grim purchased Foor's Mortuary and renamed it Ree C.Grim Funeral Chapel.
While growing up in King City, he was active with Cub Scouts achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 1949. As an adult, he served as a Cub Master for Pack #1 and Scout Master of Troop 1. He received the honor of Silver Beaver and remained active in scouting as a member of the Eagle Scout Review Board.
Tom attended King City High School where he participated in the band and played on the football team. After Graduating in 1952, he was active in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957 assigned as a Medical Evacuation Specialist and stationed at Parks A.F.B. in Livermore, CA, Kessler A.F.B. in Biloxi, MS, Nagoya A.F.B. in Japan and Plattsburg A.F.B. in New York.
After Tom graduated from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science in 1959, he began his career as a Funeral Director with his father Ree at the Ree C. Grim Funeral Chapel. He retired in 1984.
On June 4, 1960 he married his wife of almost 60 years Janice Gillett in Lockwood, CA and together they raised four children, Mark, Craig, Teresa and Leann.
Tom was dedicated to his community serving as member of the King City Chamber of Commerce, King City Rotary Club, King City Elementary School Board and Mee Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees. In 1974, he was awarded
the King City Citizen of the year for his committed service to his community.
Tom was a member of King City Community Church and Grace Lutheran Church and the Silver Kings and Queens. He was a proud member of the Santa Lucia Masonic Lodge #302 and received the highest honor of the Hiram Award for his lifelong devoted service to the lodge.
Tom is survived by his wife, Janice of King City, sons Mark (Colleen) Grim of Brentwood, CA and Craig Grim of King City, CA., daughters Teresa Salk of Hermosa Beach, CA and Leann (Marty) Phelan of Novato, CA., and grandchildren Cole Grim, Jenifer Foster, Keifer Grim, Abigail Salk, Ashley Salk, Kathryn Phelan, Molly Phelan, Amy Serna, Marissa Rodriquez, Christina Serna, and great grandchild John Sawyer Foster. He is proceeded in death by his younger brother Joseph and his parents Ree C. Grim and Vera P. Grim, and daughter in-law Sandra Grim. Tom was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.
SERVICE INFORMATION:
A Funeral Service celebrating Tom's life will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 6 at Grace Lutheran Church at 205 Canal Street in King City with Rev. Sandi Olson Decker officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow the funeral service in the King City District Cemetery.
The family invites everyone to a gathering in the Grace Lutheran Church fellowship hall following the graveside committal. Please join them as they continue to celebrate Tom's life. Memorial donations in place of flowers can be donated to Grace Lutheran Church in King City.
